Dog Attack

An incident report was received (date of incident was 12/12/19 - reported 1/2/20) on Friday about three dogs running loose in the Kiva Loop area after escaping from their yard.  One of the dogs attacked another dog, who was on a leash, and its owner.  The attacking dog was a pit bull mix.  The dog victim had serious wounds and was taken to the Animal Hospital.  Paramedics who were called to the scene treated the owner victim for bite and puncture wounds on the hand.

Bernalillo County Animal Care Services took the offending dog into custody.  The dog was released to the owner the following day for a 10-day at home quarantine.

Homeowners are cautioned that if they keep their dogs outside, the dogs must be contained in a high fence or wall from which they cannot escape with secure gates that cannot be blown open, or opened by the dog.  Bernalillo County requires that all dogs be on a leash at all times when walked outside of their home.  Off leash and loose dogs have been a continual problem throughout Paa-Ko.  Please be a responsible pet owner -- no matter how well your dog is trained -- please obey the law, and keep your dog properly contained in the yard and on a leash when outside of your yard for the safety of everyone.
